Lot of #SeaOfThieves criticism is leveled at lack of vertical progression or severe consequences for failure. The game's designed entirely around low barrier to entry and ensuring others can play together, which makes those asked-for concepts at odds with the philosophy.

yeah I have concerns about any sort of long term progression. Besides making money for cosmetics, what else can I do?

I think progression is shallow right now. I somewhat disagree about consequences for failure, though. If you die and your ship sinks, it's not a big deal. If you lose your treasure, though? YOWCH.

My impressions are that ship maneuvering has a high player skill cap, and I enjoy the PvP aspects of it currently. But that's not gonna be enough for everyone. I don't think it's the kind of game you play every night.
