I applied for Interplay QA back in 1997 (my mom drove me), which for some reason @Feargus helped me with after I emailed him. I had for some reason gotten into the same Quake clan as him and I believe he actually passed my resume along personally.

Having tested out of high school with no experience whatsoever I wanted to, of course, get into game dev asap. So I go in, and the office is dark with colored spotlights on all sorts of statues and awards. An insanely cool place to be at 16 and worshiping Black Isle games.

The receptionist hands me a test, and she tells me don't spend too much time on this one question. It ends up being a 'fill in the blank' sequence problem for QA specifically, and so I look at it and try, but I'm just bad at those and so I take a completely wild guess.

After, I go into an office for an interview, and first question is how did I solve that question correctly since only something like 5% of their candidates do. So kind of freaking out I just say I guessed, and the guy hums and haws over it a while.

I'm sure trying to decide if I'm a genius or figure out how I cheated. Takes me on a short tour, and then lets me know they'll be in touch. Of course I didn't get it, but I've always wondered if I had gotten that question wrong had my life gone a different way.

And also being 16 after I got shot down I sent Feargus an email where as I recall I wasn't very thankful or nice about the kindness he had done. I try not to harbor any regrets in life, but that's one of them. I'm sure he wouldn't even remember.
