Hot take: #TheGameAwards shouldn’t be popularity votes, and allowing them to be decided by the public (who absolutely haven’t played all the games in the category they’re voting for) undermines their value.

It should be the exact opposite of how it is now. Make a couple categories that are popularity contests. Otherwise we’re stuck in an award ceremony where category entries are chosen based on popularity parity and not necessarily who deserves what.

Upon reading their FAQ: “The winners in most categories are determined by the international jury (90%) and a public fan vote (10%)” so I guess I retract everything I said?

I read that too but seeing the winners tonight, it doesn't feel very "international."

Consider though that only big games tend to have international and localized releases, so there’s going to be some baked in bias there anyway I assume.
