Hot take: #TheGameAwards shouldn’t be popularity votes, and allowing them to be decided by the public (who absolutely haven’t played all the games in the category they’re voting for) undermines their value.

Upon reading their FAQ: “The winners in most categories are determined by the international jury (90%) and a public fan vote (10%)” so I guess I retract everything I said?

I'm not sure a better system exists. Metacritic scores are probably the only evaluation that holds any water. It's too subjective for a few people to decide, and too biased by popularity for a fan vote. Awards ceremonies are largely just useless BS.
