Games are expensive to make and run. AAA boxed games really haven't changed prices, even to match inflation/royalties. Which is also largely dictated by console manufacturers. Just selling a big AAA game for $60 is no longer enough. What's the solve?
They were less complex and easier and cheaper to make. When a single person could have modeled, textured and animated Mario in a month, it now takes a team of people many months to achieve a higher and more complex fidelity.

No doubt, but our hobby has grown into the multi billion dollar market that it is to meet those cost needs. To say these AAA titles with their fan bases don't make enough off box copies seems ignorant to me.
