How should developers meet the costs of AAA buy-to-play video game development and publishing?

Has the percent of profits from game sales gone up as well or is a loss taken because of company growth? I’m not trying to be an arse. Just generally curious on how the profit margin has changed vs expenses in the game industry.

Well if you're selling for $60 and not accounting for inflation over 20 years and increase salaries, team sizes, and costs, then profit margin can't go anywhere but down. Hence microtransactions, season passes, etc.
