I don't understand the draw to WoW Classic servers, but hey, glad other people are excited. I think I don't and I don't.

Statistically those that are engaging in end game progression content are <1/3 of players. Certainly WoW does it better than most in encouraging more people to progress further than they might otherwise, largely because of the features you mentioned.
I think it comes down to wanting a game to be made for you, and appeal to how you like to play games, and even forcing others to conform to the same. And that's just not their design philosophy.

I think it'll be real interesting to see how they handle Classic, because I just don't believe they're going to be ok going back to where the game was. I think it goes against what they fundamentally believe as designers. We'll see!

I think a point of clarification needed is that Blizzard is making Classic with well done scripts an option now, not their new frontier.

I'm unsure how forcing others to play a certain way applies. People will play Classic if they choose to.
