So XII and XV would work best for you, since they have open world monster spawning.
I'm not a big fan of the series. Specifically the random encounter mechanic.Yup! Combat is probably better in XV, but the Gambit system was cool too IMO. XV has other problems...

Everyone always complains about the Gambit system, but I never encountered anything game breaking or battle frustrating.

Well it was VERY different. So I get it. Plus you can kind of bot the whole game when you get enough so... it's a little weird.
