Overall it's a game of mechanics, so after a game of 5 hours or so, at the end I only take away further knowledge of mechanics.
And while I can enjoy the games in that moment, it not being applicable to my greater life experience seems like a waste of time.

I just like games with a narrative, with a story to tell, new ideas to present, etc. Strategy games just don't usually fulfill that.

Well I stand on the completely opposite side of this. Most games have narrative that is razor-thin or convoluted.
