It really does matter. A kettle brings water to a rolling boil which incorporates a lot of air into the water. I had "tea" made with microwaved water many times in the US and it tastes completely wrong - flat and weird. It makes a huge difference.

come on mate, I know you're of the microwave cult, but open your mind. Come over to the kettle side. Our tea tastes much better here.
Water being hot on the top makes for worse tea? How’s that? We have a kettle. We use it daily for tea making. I don’t care if anyone chooses to use a kettle or a microwave because boiling water is literally the same either way.

The science "literally" says otherwise though
Look, it's not important, heat your water however you wish. But don't insist a microwaved tea tastes good (because it doesn't) or at least produce some evidence to back up your point... the kettle crew have managed to do so!
