It really does matter. A kettle brings water to a rolling boil which incorporates a lot of air into the water. I had "tea" made with microwaved water many times in the US and it tastes completely wrong - flat and weird. It makes a huge difference.

Look, it's not important, heat your water however you wish. But don't insist a microwaved tea tastes good (because it doesn't) or at least produce some evidence to back up your point... the kettle crew have managed to do so!
