Unfortunately not. Not while hanging, just when walking up to a cliff edge. Even if the drop is low to moderate the game will often decide my character should not jump down.

Crawl spaces are weird for sure, but I think you can just R2 again to get out. For ledges, sometimes pressing jump then holding forward works for me. I'd also suggest getting the safe fall ability ASAP. It's a completely different game when a 3 foot fall doesn't kill you.
