      Want to feel like a stupid and uninformed American citizen, which is how I feel right this moment? Write down on a piece of paper how much you think your city spends on its police budget. Then, write down what percentage of the overall budget you think it is. Then go look.

      I just did. I live in a city that is not perfect, but I would consider extremely safe and, compared to other places I've lived, relatively light on oppression. We spend over $500 MILLION DOLLARS on police annually. It's over 1/3rd of the city's budget and about 2x anything else.

      I've called 911 one time while living here. Rarely ever seen a problem that couldn't be resolved by the adults standing around. What, exactly, are we paying for? I'd rather use that money to build houses for some of our homeless. Or provide jobs for some of our unemployed.

      This person’s forearms appear to be 6’ long. (I guessed 5m and 10%. Ours is 25M which is about 35% the annual budget. It’s the 8th safest city in California of ~500 cities.)
