Cucumbers do really well if you grow them in a tomato cage. They take up less real estate that way, and fewer fruits rot or get missed.

Cucumbers are usually pretty pliable, but if they feel too stiff you can place the cage around the center of the plant, then tie strings to the cage and start training the new tendrils up the string. The plant will start to climb the strings and then the cage.
