I'm sure the game is super deep and all that. It and Witcher 3 are the opposite of WoW for a different reason, player character responsiveness. Man I hate moving my dude in those games.

I'm nearing the end and it's been worth the time investment for sure, but I found it to be a very uneven experience. Really amazingly impressive in many regards, though.

Can you imagine how much absurdly better all of these games (ME, Witcher, RDR3, etc.) would be if they had the combat controls/feel of God of War? Like holy FUCK would those be amazing games.

RDR2 with Metal Gear Solid 5 controls would be quite nearly a perfect game.

IMO tighter story and progression would do better for RDR2 than any controls changes.

Definitely room for improvement in both areas, but I didn't stumble on any of it as hard as I did over simple interactions like picking up items, taking cover, or hitching my horse. Pretty much a constant struggle.

I guess. I don’t know that “hitching my horse was annoying” will be MY takeaway in 10 years. Most of those seemed like interactivity issues and bugs more so than actual “control” of the character. More flabbergasting was a seemingly total lack of concern or care to patch them.

There wasn't a single climactic moment in the game that wasn't ruined for me by fumbling with the controls in some way. Every duel, shootout and horse chase was at some point punctuated by me going "wait, fuck, hold on.. No don't jump up there, get back into cover WTF ARTHUR"

You’re not wrong! I think... I almost consider bad controls at this point part of the challenge of a game. Plus it’s the same as GTA, maybe even a little better, so I knew what I was getting.
