No net tax, and not letting states regulate beyond their borders, was a tent pole of conservative thinking since the early 90’s. What happened?
I would argue states collecting taxes from sales to people in their state is not regulating beyond their borders, it’s a common sense change to adapt to an increasingly online marketplace.

Courts just ruled on state tax not the republicans although Trump applauded but I don’t know that he speaks for all republicans
