it's a constant battle. ideally you should be keeping what you like, there are less clear winners than there were in D1
I'm enjoying Destiny 2 now that I'm 30 but the itemization system is pretty opaque. I'm never really sure what I should be keeping or not, using to feed other items, or just trashing. The end game content and gearing loop could be explained a lot better. Or at all.

It really is very hazy, Guns you pretty much just keep the ones you like and enjoy using as there are clear differences but armour and whether or not try to boost health/regen/speed etc is really odd and rarely feels like it makes a difference at all.

Basically Regen is by far the best start for pve. Resilience 4 for PvP. Mobility for PvP (only affects walk speed; strafing -not running). #1 stat is looks. Dump anything higher power into what you are using. Guns you will have to try to see if you like them.
