    Friendly reminder that suicide prevention isn’t just saying “here if you need to talk!” and posting a hotline number. it’s healthcare. it’s housing. it’s adequate social welfare. it’s food security. it’s actually being able to access mental health services quickly.

    hearing from many young freelancers/journalists who say they feel "unprofessional" following up w an assigning editor after being ghosted on a draft for weeks let's make this clear: if an editor doesn't get back to you in a timely manner, they're the unprofessional one

    Because prison in the U.S. has nothing to do with rehabilitation.

    A graphic shows an image of a federal correctional institution. A quote from Kevin Ring, the president of Families Against Mandatory Minimums, reads: "These people are asking, 'Will I get separated from my family? When?’ ‘Should I get a lease on a home? Can I enroll in school? Can I do anything?' They're trying to reintegrate, but they can't."
    The home-confinement experiment of the past year has been remarkably successful. Of the 4,500 participants, just three were arrested for new crimes. And yet nearly everyone with time left on their sentences is expected to return to prison.
