I have personally received one of these surprise medical bills. Weeks later, I received a bill to pay for the doctor who treated me who was apparently out-of-network. Democratic and Republican lawmakers blocked legislation that would have done something to mitigate this problem. Not even solve it, just mitigate it.

Sometimes the influence of corporate money in our political system doesn’t always line up with a vote. It often looks like obstruction and protecting the status quo. A status quo where we lose and large private equity and insurance companies win.
