Endorsing would be fundamentally undemocratic. And in my race in particular, unprecedented.

You would be correct if parties were non-hierarchical organizations, flat. But they are hierarchical. Decisions are made top down. Parties are hierarchical because some people invest more. You want active, contibuting members wielding most of the power.
