So @DerekAlton here are 10 tangible things that I think that the GC can do.

3) Get the
#GCDevExchange properly funded and with departments willing to actually drive some of the ideas that have been posted there https://gcdevexchange-carrefourproggc.org/en@ResultsJunkie put a lot of effort into this but it needs other departments to put some $$ into it.Show this thread -
4) Accessibility is a big for this government. Some of the most amazing public sector employees are right now at http://accessibilitycampto.org in Toronto. I so want to be there! But why isn't the GC sponsoring this event? It's a trivial amount of $$ but doing so much for awareness.

5) Lets figure out procurement. Sounds kinda crazy, but I cannot understand why it is so difficult to hire firms who clearly understand open source. The whole model is bent towards an older paradigm where tech workers acted like cogs. I know this isn't simple, but...

6) Let's find ways to actually get the public sector involved in giving back to the
#OpenSource code that they use. Ideally with our strengths of#a11y &#i18n but frankly it could be anything. I want to see a list of contributions that have been made in 2018.Show this thread -
8) Let's have a public endorsement of the
#CivicTech community in Canada. Groups like@code4ca,@CivicTechTO &@yowcivictech are amazing. We need so much more federal attention on those movements than we do of places like@Bayview_Yards which have already gotten their millions.Show this thread -
9) Let's see the enforcement of the Policy on Green Procurement https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=32573 … - folks don't need more talk, we need to see action. Are the GC's digital properties powered by carbon neutral data centres? It really doesn't take much to make something like that a priority.

10) Let's get the GC out to events that support the mandate of this government. Let's demonstrate that the GC is a leader, but also ensure that that comes with abilities to listen & support those who work on the ground in these issues.

Turned into a bit of a rant, but it's been that kind of Monday. Sorry about that.
