The age bump up is SIGNIFICANT. After the Great Mills shooting in MD, since the shooter was 17 and child access laws stopped applying at 16, his parents couldn’t be held accountable in any way shape or form.

After such a tragedy, it not being possible to hold anyone accountable hurts almost as much as the tragic event itself. Even if this law doesn’t prevent a tragedy, it will make sure someone can be held accountable in the event of one.

Who decides what is responsible? If a kid under say 10 got ahold of a gun then I can understand that. But at a certain point a kid, even though he is considered a kid by law, isn’t stupid and can sort things out. Get into places they shouldn’t. Etc......

Yes but if someone leaves their gun out on the counter without any qualms and their kid takes it out to kill someone, it being left around like that shouldn’t be shrugged off as NBD. That sends a message that safe storage doesn’t matter.

Why not the same laws as driving a car- required license, liability insurance and registration?

Voting is a right too and we have no problem limiting it. The prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure is a right, but laws have found all sorts of workaround around that. Why should the second amendment not be subject to any limitation any other right has?
