There's more crime than before, and people feel way less safe. Maybe try listening to what folks are actually saying instead of what you think they're saying.

I am listening, and it feels completely insane to me. I live in the Haight, I walk around in my neighborhood every day, and I feel safer now than I did last year, but only because I had one shouty sidewalk neighbor who now lives at the camp at Haight and Stanyan.

I am aware that crime occurs in San Francisco. I used to edit the police blotter for every neighborhood for a local news outlet. I make judgements on whether things are getting worse or better based on the aggregate data, not how bad a recent crime sounds when you describe it.
