While I agree with the sentiment “but it’s not _that_ Microsoft” there also seems to be a lack of understanding why people think “it’s _that_ Microsoft”. Maybe it’s a generational thing of people that weren’t around for “_that_ Microsoft”?

They also have a core committer in FreeBSD as of 2 years ago which is where the native Azure and HyperV support came in for the 11.x releases. A far cry from when I went to the ChefConf hack day and it was running in a VirtualBox inside of HyperV and VERY broken.

Who's the core team member you're referring to, and more importantly why does that matter? Core is democratically elected and doesn't set project architecture policy. Also, hyperv was added here: https://svnweb.freebsd.org/changeset/base/250199 … - long before 11.x was branched. Hope this helps.
