A great paper outlining why it's important to do sample return missions (e.g. Hayabusa, OSIRIS-REx). Another way that works just as well is observing meteorite-dropping fireballs and collecting the rocks they produce.

On October 24, the observed an outburst of an unknown shower. The peak lasted only 30 minutes. The orbits show that the meteors are remenants of a sunskirting long-period , coming back from the Oort cloud.

Really interesting talk on the physics of the Winchcombe meteorite atmospheric entry here. 👇 Remarkable to hear say that if the speed & entry angle had been just *a bit* faster & steeper nothing would’ve made it to the ground & that amazing sample would’ve been lost.
