Seinfeld is so good is because it approximates mythological tales. A flip decision made at the start of each episode deploys machinations of fate that launch half-hour quests to safely undo. Unexpected consequences culminate in an audience looking out for every mere coincidence.

These set a stage for comedy and (usually light and funny) tragedy, as the heroes delve into the absurd. The four main characters become archetypes, just like in mythology, where they can be dropped into any setting (the stubborn rooster, the clever fox, the horny Zeus, etc)

I think you may have stumbled onto an analysis of the platonic form of the sitcom. Though 'tragedy' is not always thematically appropriate, and more specific to Seinfeld.
