Making light of the dictators, belittling their comical mannerisms, sure. But Death of Stalin makes light of the constant arrests and killings under Stalin, making fun of the atmosphere of paranoia.
-
It’s still a pretty fine line. The paranoia was a result of the lampooning of his character. It’s a Stalin stereotype. If lampoons of Hitler aren’t associated with him getting his hands dirty, it’s probably because he wasn’t so “hands-on”. There’s plenty more examples besides.

The line is fine. But, the film dealt with areas that effected the population as opposed to just the ideology or persona. And it's done in such a way as to make those crimes seem not as serious as they were: 'Bloody ol' commies, always arrestin' badoom tssh.
-
Yeah, but isn’t that the whole reason why it’s funny? Treating a murderous regime like a kitchen sink comedy of errors? Considering the likes of ‘Four Lions’ (or anything Chris Morris has touched for that matter), that sounds like a weak moralist argument.

I missed the chat. Classic.

It's still going if you want it to.
