This is what was missed in this morning’s great hellthread. L/Acc acts like it has the monopoly on “responsibility”, making for superior judgements. But it’s a myopic catholic guilt that seldom acknowledges the inherent limitations of classical ethics...https://twitter.com/cyborg_nomade/status/1024992725639331840 …

I’ve written on this unsatisfactorily before but the myopia of the left’s contemporary ethics ironically precludes the efficiency of their premature judgements in seeking an adequate ethics. It’s an ouroboros. Calling it “responsibility” makes ppl think its broader than it is.

The left misusing its own language of “self care” and “emotional labour” (to pick 2 much memed examples) to frequently sidestep responsibility is a case in point. The contemporary left’s misunderstanding of their own apparent ethics is nauseating.

In our interview Jmurphy noted that the left believes self-improvement is capitalist ideology, and I say that self-improvement is an inherently hierarchical right-wing notion. What would an unconditional ethics/self-care look like?

It’s an oxymoron. Ethics is always conditional, by definition. The L/R downfall (wrt Acc) is applying judgements to an analysis of that which is beyond ‘us’.

Re: self-improvement — perhaps because L separates economic self-improvement from subjective self-improvement and R doesn’t know how? The point is elsewhere.

The subjectivity of improvement of inherently leftist. R (non-Acc R), is quite happy to admit certain objective goals are better than others. Being able to run a 5k > than slobbing Putin sofa watching TV.

'slobbing Putin' is by far the best autocorrect I've ever seen.
