This is what was missed in this morning’s great hellthread. L/Acc acts like it has the monopoly on “responsibility”, making for superior judgements. But it’s a myopic catholic guilt that seldom acknowledges the inherent limitations of classical ethics...https://twitter.com/cyborg_nomade/status/1024992725639331840 …

It’s an oxymoron. Ethics is always conditional, by definition. The L/R downfall (wrt Acc) is applying judgements to an analysis of that which is beyond ‘us’.
-
Re: self-improvement — perhaps because L separates economic self-improvement from subjective self-improvement and R doesn’t know how? The point is elsewhere.
-
The subjectivity of improvement of inherently leftist. R (non-Acc R), is quite happy to admit certain objective goals are better than others. Being able to run a 5k > than slobbing Putin sofa watching TV.
-
I’m not sure that’s true. If I was to generalise I’d say L is pseudocatholic: think good thoughts, give money away to good causes, love thy neighbour, etc. R is get fit, get rich, get free.
-
Both can be understood as legitimately ethical positions (classically speaking) but neither inherently necessitates “responsibility”.
