New blog post! The Risk Minimizer seeks to reduce risk all the way. They’re willing to sacrifice a lot. The Risk Balancer won’t increase risk if it’s not worth it. But they don’t want to lose out on the good just bc they’re avoiding the bad.https://narrativemancy.com/2020/03/27/risk-minimizers-and-risk-balancers/ …

- I like “Minnie” and “Bally” - I like the insight around them not changing behavior through coercion - I didn’t get much from the equation part - IME different assessment of the risk is usually a bigger factor than actual risk tolerance (I think end result is same though)

Useful, thanks! I suspect the equation part is more distraction than helpful, might remove it

I think it frames the issue very effectively, and gives a useful set of shared terms with which to discuss things. I'm not finding it inspiring of creativity - maybe more open questions sprinkled throughout? Where am I, as the reader, am invited to be creative?

This situation, overall, resembles that of environmentalists and polluters. There may be something to take from those situations, although AFAIK they're made up the usual sorts of compromises where no-one is happy.

Minnie sounds like a negative utilitarian, a philosophy I have a lot of sympathy towards. I'm not sure what to tell her except to place greater importance on surrounding herself with people who share her values.

Nice article! In my case, we've handled this by the "Ballys" letting the "Minnies" know that they really understand their concerns, and that they know they're worried. And then keep on doing what they did before. Seems to work for everyone
