Right on. There's often a lag where our identity and patterns reflect the old capability, and then we're put in a new context or have a chance to try again and BAM

I had another thought about growth, maybe a week ago. I'm just riffing here, but I suspected a pattern where inconsistent performance might signal growth. You have to break the equilibrium of a consistent previous level of performance.

I'm an ok driver, but I'm not getting any better. To do that, I have to strive and make more mistakes leveling up. The feeling that I'm plateaued, as a driver, is true. To get better, I would have to experiment more. I would have more bad days. I might even seem to get worse.
