Both Burning Man and Judaism have obviously large barriers to entry, requiring resources or support from someone on the inside.

As does, practically, Mathematics. Yes yes the Meno's slave, but progress in research mathematics basically doesn't happen independent of the academy. The rest is reliably wrong or cranky; 4chan on superpermutations is a proving exception.
