Scarcity mindset hardly makes sense today. Amazon makes just-in-time purchases easier than ever. No more just-in-case. Yet it could all break, driving us back to the frugal mindset of a depression-era kid or a hoarder's habits.

I would feel appreciation right now, if this weren't so mindboggling. Really? All my life, no shortages. Of anything.

My whole family used to queue for food in front of a shop in the early, dark hours of the morning in the early 1980s. Before midday we expected food to be delivered and be able to buy some using our food tickets. Some days we went home with nothing when no food was delivered.

As a child I found it exciting to wake up early in the morning and go shopping with my parents. I don’t know how they felt coming home empty handed. I’ll have to ask my mother next time we speak. There sure was scarcity everywhere in Poland at that time. Now things are amazing.

I mean, the reason why is partially because the prices are high enough to prevent shortages. People who cannot, or just barely can afford these prices, still experience scarcity.

Scarcity as a phenomenon, not as a local or temporal condition.

There are chronic housing shortages in almost every major city. Housing is far more scarce than it was 50 years ago, hence the ridiculous levels of rent seeking. The average house used to cost less than the average yearly wage.
-
Mainly because it’s far more difficult to build a cityblock. With all the regulations, permits and rent control. Thank your local government

Ask the people of Flint this same question. Or visit a Native American reservation, like Pine Ridge in SD.

My dad grew up in famine. I know a lot of other people aren't as lucky as I am. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
