The entire pitch was bizarre. "Everyone has access to cheap bandwidth, and no one can afford processing power!" ... Actually the opposite is true, we're all paying cable monopolies $300/mo for throttled data caps and have supercomputers in our pockets. What world do they live in?

That part, at least, is rational from a business perspective. What I don’t get is that original set: this is only better for you if you have great bandwidth with very low spec hardware. That may be a significant segment someday. But by the better hardware will be cheaper.

They dropped "do no evil" officially a couple years ago. Current strategy seems to be "screw it, money and power".

They idea has already been executed, they haven't failed at all. People were saying the same thing about Google Glass and the first Apple Watches and now we're seeing an explosion in wearables with multiple companies planning to release AR glasses/headsets including Apple.

Google could have easily delay the project and have beta testers have fun with the product. But nope, pay to become a Beta Tester because that's how game publishers trend.
