Ireland will double its funding to help educate children in some of the worlds poorest countries. @ciarancannon has just announced a major funding increase to @GPforEducation. It’s part of #globalIreland, a major initiative to double our footprint & impact around the world 🇮🇪🌍pic.twitter.com/o92hersFYs

This is the right thing to do. Education transformed our country and we want to help others in doing the same. Irl will spend 30,000 million euro on education over the next 3 years, our commitment to this initiative is 25 million euro in the same period.https://twitter.com/gpforeducation/status/959434039924088833 …

Why can't their parents work and provide for them (if they're not disabled)? There is no shortage of jobs. We're so rich compared to other countries, plenty of opportunity here for those who want it. Children in Bangladesh live alone on the streets.

It's nice to have global footprint and everything but hope you're keeping enough to sort out homelessness and emergency care in Ireland.

And that's the worry. Ireland doesn't need political clout across the world like some others do. Keeping the economy stable for a decade and keeping up with rest of the EU should be the first goal.

Why do we need to double our footprint around the world & need to ensure that "Ireland is an island at the centre of the world" as the clip ends saying? I am 100% for giving to others, but, if the giving is coming from a place that is crying out for help as well, it is misguided.

Great giving attention to the global issues of education but you have dropped the ball in Ireland. Imagine selling off school pitches to pay for sexual crimes or in the case of St Paul's transfer money into fee paying schools to avoid paying the redress board. #ilovestannes

Can I add that my children’s secondary school is struggling to entice teachers to work there. I reckon my son has had 5 different teachers for Irish alone in 2 years. Ridiculous situation…all for helping overseas providing we don’t lose focus on our own important issues
