Private doesn't necessarily handle things efficiently or well either. I have received terrible customer service from various companies compared to calling up state and federal agencies (plus since they aren't overseas underpaid sweat shop workers I can barely understand).

The profit motive in privatization just raises costs- and enriches those in on it- like various donors. Why get it retail when I can buy it wholesale sort of thing against privatization.
