Incidentally note there is no such thing as a "permanent" security clearance. Everyone is subject to periodic reinvestigations every 5 or 10 years usually. However, there *are* lifetime obligations... @kateashaw1

I read that the Obama admin created *reams* of training & familiarization materials for the incoming admin & NO ONE came to the trng sessions. $5 says they’re clueless re: end-to-end process.

Is it true that one can be denied security clearance for past marijuana use?

No. Not at all. Background investigations are to determine if you have a part of your life that could be used against you, e.g. illicit behavior, crushing financial debt, etc. Having smoked marijuana, unless part of a broader pattern, would not disqualify a clearance.
