It's a straw hat during spring/summer/early fall climate, that hat in colder seasons. Lotsa bow ties. Used to drive VW bug as a Senate staffer and then an old classic early '70s Mercedes. "Howdy" has been his voice-mail greeting since at least 2001, maybe earlier.
