At a press conference at the Mexican Embassy, FM Ebrard said the WH meeting was “cordial” & immigration, not tariffs were the subject of conversation. He said they remain “optimistic” and declined to answer a Q about whether or not he thinks Trump understands how tariffs work.
“We are optimistic because we had a good meeting w/ respectable positions from both sides & we had the opportunity to share our point of view.” On Trump understanding tariffs: “I’m not the proper authority to judge...that is the job of an American citizen to have an opinion.”

You mean whether or not Trump knows tariffs on Chinese and Mexican goods are actually paid by American corporations who import the goods and pass those costs onto American consumers which essentially makes it a tax increase? Apparently not.
