I really just think he felt like a morning test of his driving skills and mental faculties at the expense of my patience. We’re about to enter another circle!

Generally, as an UBER driver myself, I don’t choose which route to take. The UBER GPS decides that for me. If my passenger informs me there is a quicker route, I will take that route and my GPS will catch up.
