Out of an abundance of caution & due to concerns over ongoing protests in Bellevue/Seattle, MIPD asks #MercerIsland Town Center businesses to close early today to ensure to the safety of patrons and employees. The MIPD has activated additional staffing and is monitoring closely.

Mercer Island Fire and units responded to a four vehicle collision in Seattle, west of the Mount Baker Tunnel. All patients are refusing treatment. Westbound I-90 was reduced to three lanes - please check the latest traffic conditions for updates.
REMEMBER: all lanes of westbound I-90 are CLOSED beginning at Island Crest Way this weekend. There is no access to Seattle using westbound I-90.

Our street crews have been busy beautifying Town Center over the past few weeks. New flower baskets, plantings, and 8 benches have been rehabbed with recycled plastic slats. Enjoy!
Another bike/ped safety project complete on #MercerIsland! trail improvements along the Park&Ride frontage are complete helping separate user types + reminding bus riders to keep an eye out for bikes and vice versa.

Early this morning, April 22, water levels in the Island’s reservoir tanks surpassed 20 feet. This means there is sufficient water in the tanks to safely support water needs and all Islanders can resume normal water usage. More Info: mercerisland.gov/publicworks/pa

At 11:15 today, MI Police responded to a call of shots fired in a car at Luther Burbank Park. Two people were found with gunshot wounds in the car; they were transported to Harborview. A gun was recovered at the scene, no others are involved, & the scene is secured. #mercerisland

Not fully-closing I-90 resulted in massive gridlock and stranded drivers on the freeway for hours, including a school bus and folks with medical needs. This was an emergency. Using WB I-90 to cross to Seattle during this closure was not a viable option.
