Sadly and not unexpectedly, the insults I received were much milder, and much less sexualized, personal, and mean. So we're already looking at a different and explicitly racialized emotional toll. 2/

But it was notable that those targeting me frequently accused me of western imperialism/white supremacy, seemingly designed to play on liberal civility politics + white guilt + the fear of "being called racist" in hopes of neutralizing larger political commitments. 3/

I'm naming this here because it was a clear pattern, and because I think those committed to opposing fascism in all its global permutations need to more openly discuss these tactics, and how they're calibrated to divide and silence. /END

The Hindu right likes to silence folks by claiming that people in nations are complicit in indigenous genocide should not oppose other indigenous people i.e. themselves. The coopting of the language of anti-imperialism is a most devious development.
