Watching local cable news, and their take on Trump’s rally was he hit “familiar themes” and said he might work with Democrats on prescription drug prices. No mention of the massive lies he told about killing babies or his sanctuary city plan. This isn’t responsible coverage.
When Trump tells blatant lies or admits potentially illegal conspiracies, it doesn’t even get mentioned on local news. That’s a failure.
The news just spent a minute covering — their words — “nerd prom,” and noting how the White House was upset last year over Michelle Wolf. Just an absolute embarrassment.
trump is a soulless idiot untethered to anything but his ego but he’s been a genius at steadily chipping away at all norms so that nothing he says or does causes a reaction. And it’s all on us. We stopped being shocked and allowed him to normalize.

The thing I hate most about Trump rallies? Otherwise-credible reporters are just tweeting out everything he says. Granted, one can only type so fast on a phone. and it;s a firehose of falsehoods. But they're just literally propaganda stenographers. So here's an idea:
Maybe *don't cover the rallies*. Don't livetweet everything he says. Don't air it live on cable news. Show up, observe, and record, to be sure. But *stop doing this live coverage*. Report on it later, when fact checking can be done.
Trump and his administration should never be covered live. Delay coverage and put them on a split screen so you can refute the lies as they spew them.
Potentially bigger failing: clearly showing the way frequency and nature of Trump's lies significantly different from previous presidents/politicians *and* reaching casual news consumer.
I have been yelling about Local Media coverage. People ask: How can 42% support Trump? They are not on twitter. They are not political junkies. They choose to close their eyes/ears. They can pretend things that are "NOT that bad" They have the luxury of keep lying to themselves.
42% support Trump because they watch Fox News and don’t care what he does because he has a (R) by his name. If Trump ran as a Dem in 2020 they’d tear him apart.

Local news plays a huge role in shaping people’s opinions and mindsets. In Tampa, the local Faux news station is full on GOP /Trump mode 24/7. Other Tampa stations not much better. Instead of delivering news, we get corporate influenced news. Irresponsible by all stations.
On the day of the Mueller report our local news didn’t say ONE WORD about it....when I inquired, their excuse "it had reached saturation in the news cycle already"....damn straight it had, because it was newsworthy.
Who owns the local station? Sinclair?
