Trust me, I know all too well about the medical misogyny of treating menstruation, but I see how many RTs this has and am quite concerned. The "source" for this is a book by a "naturopathic doctor". Now, changing your diet, using supplements etc can definitely help w/periods.

But this is not a book by a doctor. Here is some advice by a medical clinic: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/can-high-doses-of-ibuprofen-delay-or-halt-your-period/ … If you are bleeding extremely heavily I would recommend from my own experience mefenamic acid (more efficacious for pain & bleeding than ibuprofen but it is also an NSAID) &

tranexamic acid (a coagulant). Bear in mind that extended use of NSAIDs can have significant impact on your digestive tract; I have a hiatus hernia as a result of mine. I know ibuprofen is really cheap (35p a pack in Aldi) but it's not actually a harmless drug if you use a lot.

I worry that these kinds of posts are around because more & more people can't afford to access proper medical help. If you have very heavy periods do speak to your GP & push for tests. It may just be how your uterus does periods. It could be polyps or fibroids or endometriosis.

It makes me kind of thankful that I’m allergic to it when I see the issues people have had taking it long term

I mean paracetamol scares me a bit more because of how disturbingly easy it is to overdose on, but I do think people tend to assume both of them are not serious drugs somehow as they are so cheap and easy to get

What’s the dose? I couldn’t see it in the thread. (Just curious, as I was recommended to try a ‘high dose’ for migraine, but that is only 600mg, which is the standard dose on the continent anyway!)

800mg every 6 hours for several days, which is obviously an off-label use. You can get a similar punch of NSAID at a lower dosage with naproxen or mefenamic acid (obviously those are not designed for migraine)

Not sure if this is noted in the thread, but it can also cause palpitations. I spent yrs doubling up paracetamol & ibuprofen but if you're doing any of this, there's a bigger problem that needs med investigation

These are the kind of books that fuel the pharma-epidemic under the guise of self-help. Desperate people doing desperate things. It's a crying shame.
