sometimes drugs are the best answer because you can't change your circumstances. when you get to work after not sleeping enough, the fundamental problem is that you haven't slept enough - but instead of addressing it, you drink some coffee, because you have to work.

depression has also been shown to be related to patterns of thinking. once your brain gets into a pattern, it finds that pattern easier to continue than to break. that's why we have habits. and some thinking patterns contribute to depression.

studies coming out recently have shown markers of inflammation in patients with depression. does this mean that inflammation is the "cause" of depression, or one of its effects, or neither?

I started taking antidepressants after I got sick with IBS. I was constantly anxious because I didn't know what was wrong with me, and depressed because I couldn't figure out how to eat food without being in pain. pain is depressing!

I had both anxiety and depression before I got sick, but I turned to antidepressants because after I got sick it became unbearable. it crossed a line for me where I was like "sure, I'll do anything, just help me feel better."

but my IBS felt, to me, like it was also CAUSED by my anxiety and depression. I don't know if this is true, because nobody knows what causes IBS (lololol) but it felt like my body giving me a wake-up call. Take care of yourself, or you get sick.

and one thing I found out when researching IBS was that there are neurotransmitters in your digestive system. you literally have gut feelings.
