One woman at the Friendship Centre who gave me a tour, Macauley, is from Peawanuck ("where is that"?). She told me about all about it.

She said her family was from Winisk ("Winisk"?) & that they moved after the flood destroyed the town ("flood?"). The 1986 Winisk flood.

I had never heard of the Winisk flood. In 1986 my national concerns were Expo '86 IIRC. But, man: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_Winisk_Flood …

Macauley also told me she hadn't been home in 13 years. A one way plane ticket is $3000+. "If you've got kids, well....."

Will wear it, because of cool design, but also to remind myself of my profound ignorance & to fix that. Slowly, probably. But must fix.

Anyway if you're ever in Timmins the TNFC has open public programs you can attend. Drumming/socials. Check calendar. http://www.tnfc.ca/news.html
