Now I gotta figure out where power is coming into this board by figuring out there it's going into one of these chips, then backtracing to the ribbon cable.pic.twitter.com/sl2l4pjbBR

I think the answer is that I've messed up my ground pins... see pin 20? it's a big thick trace, like it'd be voltage, but I'm measuring it as equal to the GND pins. I think that's some weirdness caused by either the powered-off state or my desoldering, and it's really +5Vpic.twitter.com/MqAlI7RsAy

I'm assuming 5v. there's really no reason they couldn't have designed this floppy drive to use 12v, or 9v for that matter... other than the fact that it'd be insane.

OK, after desoldering these resistors here, it's no longer showing as equivalent to the grounds. So at least that part is sorted, those top two pins are the power, but how much? almost certainly 5V, but will I ever be able to confirm that?pic.twitter.com/sUVpnbfG9z

I guess I could just plug in my power supply, hook it up to the 5v pin, the GND pin, and the motor enable pin, and see if it spins or explodes.

sure would be nice if there were any results for this drive on google! I could look up the datasheet. Unfortunately the first hit for Panasonic JU-202 is me, posting this picture.pic.twitter.com/7slZ3wD26I

OK SO it turns out that pin connects to that thing in the top left that's marked "HRv?" it looks like a power resistor or something. and the other end, the bottom part, is hooking up to a pin of this chip here, U6, which is DM74KS24... something.pic.twitter.com/6Xc1lh4pFT

thanks for marking over it, Zenith! now I gotta go get the desoldered chip and see if I can see under the crayon you drew on it

I think it might be a DM74LS245, since that has the right number of pins, 20. That's a 3-state Octal Bus Transceiverpic.twitter.com/s9lShOQfl0
