In other news, I got cat litter the other day, and they have a good system going, and I was reminded of something Joe Mihevc once said. Mihevc, a former city councillor & formerer theology professor, was known for his old-timey turns of phrase like "heavens to Betsy"…

…and once, I believe in discussing the fate of a derelict Etobicoke plaza, dropped the word "groceteria", which was the early word used for the grocery store as we know it.https://www.tvo.org/article/how-a-radical-idea-turned-loblaws-into-a-supermarket-empire …

How it used to work—I feel like I learned this from Anne of Green Gables or similar old books—was that you would take your list to the store and tell the staff what you wanted, and they would get it for you. "Groceterias", OTOH, were self-serve (like a cafeteria, get it?)

Anyway, the Pet Valu has implemented a similar system, where (from a distance, outside) you tell them what you want, and they bring it out, and you pay with a mobile terminal. No contact required. It is funny to think that we've come full circle, shopping-wise. Heavens to betsy.

well, they’re good peeps regardless, but less useful if they don’t carry your cat stuff.
