UPDATE: OED2 has an even EARLIER citation (1765) than MW (1798), and claims the pun-on-“dotage” usage was first (by John Wilkes) by 58 years!

right?? I had access when I was in college, but didn’t have it in Ottawa. But I’ve been in Toronto for… how many years now and had no idea TPL had it. And they’ve had it since at least 2010!
