I started a project a while ago and it’s finally almost done! It’s a keyboard I’ve wanted to build for a long time: a wooden TKL with SA Camping and Zilent switches. Here’s a thread of how it started and how it’s going!

The SA Camping keycaps are rare, and luckily I got them a long time ago in the original group buy (from around 2016/2017) before they got too expensive. I actually have an old Instagram post with them from 2017: https://www.instagram.com/p/BX5mHTbFuCK/?igshid=1k39lj7ap41km …

The board and switches I got in group buys on
@drop, and I ordered them around August 2019. Once I got the switches in the mail, I got them lubed (as in, taken apart + added Krytox switch lubricant to make them extra smooth as you type), along w/ switches for another project.pic.twitter.com/cLl4gPeO7f

Next, it was time for cutting legs. The switches came PCB mounted (instead of plate mounted), meaning they had extra little legs on the bottom that I didn’t need for my current board. I just used some nail clippers for this since I didn’t have flush cutters.pic.twitter.com/ekCORepo2u

Next, it was time to add the lubed and trimmed switches to the board. The PCB in here is hotswappable, meaning I don’t have to solder the switches in to make the circuit work.pic.twitter.com/8u0fxDFApN

This part is somewhat tedious, but really fun because the board finally is coming together. Notice the little white squares on the PCB, those are LEDs for lighting under the switches, and because the switches are blue, it’ll be nice and muted (but still present).pic.twitter.com/xxI0KFWYFu

Ugh look at this BEAUTIFUL board without caps! Super happy with it so far, and the switches feel amazing.pic.twitter.com/g12Y2TADOn

Now, it’s time for the transfer. Moving the SA Camping caps off of my WASD full-size board (with Cherry MX Browns) to my new board I’m building!pic.twitter.com/ZCPbYkVh7H
