First monitoring tool I used was a program called Noc. Have no idea where it came from. It would send alerts to a qpage server.

I realized yesterday how often i use nagios as an example of a monitoring tool and wonder how many people listening to my presentations wonder what I’m talking about (or more likely, think that my points are outdated because of it)

I’m actively searching for new monitoring systems right now and the Nagios shadow is pretty large. There’s so much innovation in DevOps/app observability but as far as I can tell there’s very little in “traditional” infra monitoring. It’s been frustrating.
